Here are a few quick tips from Joy Perkins,
owner of Omnibus
Organizing:
To establish which clothes you really wear:
Turn all the hangers in the closet so the hooks are facing outwards.
Then, as you wear them and return them to the closet they will
face the opposite way. In six months you'll be able to tell
at a glance which garments have or haven't been used. If a garment
hasn't moved, face the fact that its just taking up space sitting
in your closet. No matter who gave it to you, what you paid for
it, how much you used to like it, etc., you don't wear it! If it's
in good condition, donate it and let someone else love it.
Another tip for your clothes:
Keep a large bag in your closet then,
as you try on clothes that no longer look good, you can immediately
fold and drop them straight into that bag. When you receive
notification of a collection in your street, you'll have a bag
ready to go to the curb.
When you move:
Purge and simplify BEFORE you move. It will save
you time and precious energy when you unpack.
Keep a backup of computer
files:
Back up your computer files and
store the back-up in a different location. You can enroll in a
service to have this done remotely or simply mail the CD you burn
to a trusted friend or relative. Just don't keep the CD where the
same fire, flood, earthquake or other disaster will destroy them
both.
Losing clutter is a process:
Losing clutter is a lot like losing
weight. It didn't happen overnight and you won't get rid of it
in one session. Powerful music or setting the timer to end the
session will keep you focused and energetic for the task. Set
small steps as your goals and enjoy those small successes. Put
fresh flowers on newly uncovered surfaces and enjoy the lovely
smell and sight.
